Missing
2007/8
Missing documents the anonymous interiors and exteriors of brothels, saunas and flats across the UK. Taken while accompanying the police on raids and visits over a year, the images are devoid of people and reveal the imprint of prostitution and sex trafficking. The work explores issues of displacement and loss of identity utilising a spontaneous approach to image-taking; working quickly in low and artificial light. The work also meditates on ritual, and prostitution as institution.
The Missing series forms part of the International Slavery Museum, National Museums Liverpool’s permanent displays and collections.
The work will extend beyond the gallery presentation to a book format, planned for 2012.
